17.01.19 – Here’s My Heart – Thursday Music

This week for our Thursday Music devotional, a song that has been covered by many in the world of contemporary worship; Passion, Crowder, Casting Crowns, Shane and Shane, Lauren Daigle…Here’s My Heart. Written by Casting Crowns, the version I have been listening to recently is by a band called I AM THEY…yes, all capitals! When Shane and Shane cover something it’s hard for me to like any other version, but I AM THEY do a pretty good job with this song.

The verses build on one another, and we open with

Here’s my heart, Lord…Speak what is true.

God’s Word to us tells us that He only speaks truth (John 1.17, 14.6, Psalm 119.160). So, simply, listening to God, giving Him our heart to speak into results in Him speaking truth, because that is all He speaks…it’s all He can speak (Numbers 23.19, Hebrews 6.18).

We then get some foundational truths about the believer,

I am found…I am Yours…I am loved…I’m made pure…I have life…I can breathe…I am healed…I am free…

Wonderful, foundational, formative, critical truths about the life of a believer in Jesus (John 10.3, 14-15, 27, Ephesians 1.5, 1 Corinthians 6.17, 1 Peter 2.9, Colossians 3.1-3, John 8.31-32).

Then, really importantly, we see how all of this is possible; why we are found, loved, pure, free. Rather than focus on me, me, me, the song turns upward in focus, which is what worship is all about, right, giving glory and honour and praise to the One who deserves it.

You are strong…You are sure…You are life…You endure…You are good, always true…You are light, breaking through…

You are more than enough…You are here…You are love…You are hope…You are grace…You’re all I have…You’re everything…

Where to begin here? God is strong (Psalm 46.1), God endures (Jeremiah 10.10), God is good (Mark 10.18, Luke 18.19), we could go on and on…

We then close by reaffirming our total submission to the Lord with our heart and also our life, based on who He is.

Here’s my heart, Lord…

Here’s my life, Lord…

Speak what is true…

So, as you listen to this song just think; have we given our whole heart and life to Him? Are we listening to what He is saying to us? Ask Him to speak what is true into your life today.
