This is a question I get semi-regularly: does it matter where the worship music I listen to comes from? Does it matter the church/group/band that are making the music?
In a word, yes.
In your own time it is a decision that you need to make in your God-given, Spirit-driven conscience (principle of Romans 14.14). If you can appreciate the music, the Scriptural lyrics, the God-glorifying content without taking in and being influenced by the questionable environment from which it comes, that’s between you and the Lord.
When we worship corporately, together, as a church, it matters even more.
Say there’s a new believer and we sing a song from a particular church/group. They go home and look up that church/group and might get taken in by the false teaching. They’re new, it seems alluring…Where did that start? With the music.
The responsibility to worship well, to worship in Spirit and truth is all the more heavy when we come together and assemble as a church.
For the Biblical basis for these thoughts, read Acts 16.16-18 and the explanation here.
