Next week at Saar Fellowship we are having baby/child dedications as part of the service.
Children are a gift from God (Psalm 127.3) and as such we want to honour the Lord for His gracious giving. As believers we are called to recognise that children belong first and foremost to God (Romans 11.36) and as such we are given the temporary, yet tremendous, responsibility and pleasure of parenting. Parents not only have the awesome responsibility of caring for this Divine gift, but also the wonderful privilege of enjoying the gift.
Because children belong to God and are given by grace as gifts to parents, it is only proper and appropriate that children be dedicated back to God. In 1 Samuel 1 Hannah presented her son Samuel to the Lord. In Luke 2.22 we read that Mary and Joseph brought their baby, Jesus, to the temple in Jerusalem in order to present him before the Lord. God’s own Son given to redeem and rescue the world, dedicated to His Father’s care whilst living in the same frail flesh we have.
In the same way in a few days some within our own church family will bring their children forward to be dedicated to the Lord and present themselves as parents who are committed to raising a child in Spirit and truth, to know God, to love God, and to bring them to a point where the faith of the parents becomes, Lord willing, the faith of the child.
Join us in rejoicing over this wonderful gift and in praying for these families!
