Whilst Ephesians 3.14 is part of a wider passage (and a wonderful passage at that) it would also serve us well to look at what Paul specifically says in these few words.
Here it is:
“For this reason I kneel before the Father…”
(NET)
Paul is going to talk about prayer (I kneel before the Father) with some standout elements (vv.14-19). His prayer is based on (for this reason) everything that he has previously said (3.1-13). Paul’s prayer was based on what He knew of God: His plans, His purposes, His Word, and His will.
Before we jump into the passage at large this is a wonderful point to ponder: praying according to the plans, purposes, Word, and will of God. Paul isn’t the first person we see doing do in Scripture: Jesus’ life, ministry, and prayer life was saturated with Scripture (Matthew 26.39 cf. Psalm 75.8, for example).
Moving forward, let us commit to being people who pray according to the plans, purposes, Word, and will of God.
