Today’s Last Word is, literally, the last word spoken on the cross.
Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said,
“Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!”
And having said this he breathed his last.
Luke 23.46
We have seen that right until the very end, Jesus was others-focused (John 19.27), and here we see that until the very end Jesus was prayer-focused, focused on communing and communicating with the Father.
The work being done, Jesus rested in the hands of the Father. Nobody took His life from Him, He laid it down for you. He trusted and rested in the hands of the Father as He laid down His life willingly. Knowing His body was to be laid aside, Jesus committed His spirit to the Father in one final act of trust and obedience and communion.
If you have never done so, there is never a better time to echo the last word of Jesus and pray “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit, my whole life, take it and use it as you will, for your glory.”

Thank you James. I was just thinking, “only one more week of CGN 24/7 prayer” and it made me cry. I cried because I found out my previous coworkers are still not being protected at the hospital, and because my own pastor was put at risk on Good Friday multi church service, when all 6 pastors and a large worship team were together singing on stage for the streaming service and were angry with me for warning them of the risk. And now a tornado is only one state over from Texas where my son is in Austin. And I cried because I watched “Tiger King” on Easter, which is not at all pleasing to the Lord. I am thankful for this reminder from you, to confess my sin, and commit my spirit, and whole life to God. I am thankful and praise God that in the two months I have been on call for the local sexual assault center there have been zero calls on my shift. I pray that there will be none for a year. I am a little concerned going into the ER at this time, due to possible exposure. (I am 63). I will wear a mask of course and so will the patient but have to take it off for forensic oral swabs. I am thankful I learned how to “Zoom” with family yesterday. ‘So amazing! And my son Michael remembered to call from Austin! Next Zoom call my brother in law will do science “tricks” for the nephews. He is a Chemistry professor 😁 Anyway, thank you so much. I have developed the utmost respect and appreciation for all the Calvary pastors. Yes, you are awesome, all glory to God. Diana 🌷
